Happy December

Oh Where have i been.... my goodness!!!
Well in short, I have in a place where God can work on me..... hahaha....
He had to get me up and out in order for me to hear Him....
Hahaha.... I'm not anywhere weird.... just in an apartment on the top floor....hehehe...

i am finding that Facebook is becoming the new media go to these days.... I have all for forgotten blogger world....how terrible of me... so sorry bloggerworld...

One of the most interesting things that God has opened my eyes to is LOVE....
i have discovered that due to life circumstances (none dramatically terrible)...I have emotionally detached myself from those around me.... i know, sounds weird.....
Recently i took an online quiz of the "languages of love"....the languages in which i receive and give love are Physical touch (not sexual) and Quality time... both things that have been absent for many years....
Now that I understand how i hear love, things make so much more sense....
....and I'm babbling on....hahahaha....
its all good.... God has me right where He wants me....and I'm really trying to pay attention....

while I have been absent I have created a few things, not to much..... I just couldn't find where I placed my mojo.....:)
"Oh No, you d-int"...:)

I finally got around to having my cards printed at the printers...
I sold these to a local gift shop

I was just playing with washes with this one....
I decided she was Aurora BorEe Alice....hehehe
these were all on my facebook page.... it's scary how easily it is to scoop pictures up these days....
How will they ever monitor copyright laws, i do not know.....

Be Blessed this season.....♥

Grid journal

I thought I'd try this grid paper journal thingy.... Hehe
Cottage Remnant copyright 2013©
My friend Alice was doing one and I thought it might be fun...
It's a little tricky not using watercolour ..... I'm not educated in the art of pencil crayon-ing.... Is that a word?....but I enjoyed the "meandering " feel doing this had... La la la... No pressure!

Thanks Alice for sharing as always!
Enjoy the last of your weekend.

Forget- me- Knot

I have been creating in my new space.... my new corner of the world

Cottage Remnant Artwork copyright 2013©
I have decided that i like matte medium....lol..... i have discovered that in allows my wax pastels and certain watercolour pencils to blend on the paper nicer....there isn't that "just coloured" look, which i'm not fond of for myself.....it also allows my good ol dollar store markers to work and blend perfectly too....
I have also discovered that my white sharpie paint pen works better over the medium as well.....i found without the medium, it just disappeared...poof.
Cottage Remnant Artwork copyright 2013©
the downfall is that my wonderful micron pens don't really like the matte medium, so any ink work that needs to be done i have to do it first....

and i'm not so upset with my iphone anymore....i had to shorten my nails in order to use the keypad better, but it allows me a lot more freedom.... like taking a photo and then right away creating a post....
i cannot really do any editing, but in a way that is a good thing....sometimes i 'wait' to edit something far too long....lol...
O.K... enjoy the rest of the long weekend...

be blessed,
Cynthia♥

Valerie Sjodin Class-page 2

Some progress on my Art Journal with Valerie Sjodin.....

My second page.....i held off purchasing the required 'matte medium' which is used before painting with acrylic paint......so being a 'smarty pants' that i am, i thought i would just go ahead and use my watercolours...

Terrible mistake.....my 'heavy' marker i used for "morning' was not water resistant, and it smeared....big time.
So, with layers of gesso and paint i managed to save it a wee bit....but as you see it is a little different....
I added some glitter pens and pearl ex powder stuff i had and tried to fool the eye away from the mess i made....
It pays to follow instructions sometimes....lesson learned....AGAIN

Calling it a night...
Blessings,
Cynthia♥

Valerie Sjodin:Mini Online Class

I'm taking a mini online class with +Valerie Sjodin  this weekend....well actually i'm taking it with my dear friend +Alice Hendon ....but Valerie is the instructor....LOL....here is the beginning of my art journal.

Valerie instructions are to use a French Curve, but since that is not what i have, i used this butterfly from a "glitter screen" set....the daisies of course are from my hand...
i wonder why they are called French Curves..... us English have curves too.....LOL
If you are interested in taking this class check out Valerie's link at

Do Try!

Despite the words of the master YODA himself....
"Try not. Do or do not!! There is no try" .... I think there is always room for trying.

 and tried i did.... LOL....
i tried, gesso, canvas, acrylics, watercolours.....
markers, pencil crayons, and even some soft pastels.
this is a buffet of tries.....

Well hope y'all are staying cool on this very warm and humid May evening.

A Daisy a Day Dear♥

Playing with the camera

My friend +Alice Hendon from The Creator's Leaf, who is also a photographer, shared some photo tips with me yesterday.
I have always just taken my art photo's on my desk.....not the best place i found out.
So i tried a little table under my window....
I think they are much brighter...
I even used my daughters camera instead of mine....she took my better camera with her on a school trip.
She went with the Horticultural Society to the Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls (CDN).
I guess i should have painted a butterfly today...LOL....well there is one on the inside of the page.

BTW
i completed round #2 of Lesson#1
I will be posting my progress later today i hope...
pop on over if you'd like.

Sunday Sketches

Surprise, another flower!!!

So, maybe it isn't that much of a surprise..... i have been sketching lots of little flowers trying to perfect my Dion Dior technique for drawing "bowl' flowers. I have adapted it a bit to create daisy's, which are really a bowl flower, but i think the same principle is there to get perspective.

this saying came to me month or so back, and i have been waiting to use it....
Funny thing is, i worded it wrong.
I had wanted to say...
See the goodness in the intention....but before i knew it i had it backwards....so i just went with it....who knows maybe this is how it is supposed to be.... LOL

Will we had Grade 12 Prom this weekend at our house.
My baby girl is graduating....
She looked amazing, but of course!

Well happy creating.
I am heading over to join up with Sunday Sketches....grab your tea...coffee it you must....lol...and pop on over.

blessings,
Cynthia♥

Colour

Colour, I had to add colour... :)
This is my  piece from  yesterday.....
I was pondering it late last night and decided it needed some colour.

I am beginning to appreciate leaving the pencil lines more than i had before......
I guess it depends on the picture itself.
************************************************************
Oh I have to mention (I'm so excited about this)
+Tracey Fletcher King  has chosen ME to be a guinea pig for her online class on Shading.
She, so graciously kind in the past, has answered some of my shading questions....and mentioned that she had been thinking of doing a little online class, and would i be interested in being her guinea pig (my words not hers).....
would i be interested.....ahhh YAH!!!!!!
So, stayed tuned for evidence of this, she is preparing it as we speak....well i type you read....lol

I'm participating in Paint Party Friday this week, pop on over and check them out.

Well, I'm off to put the kettle on and make a pot of tea....getting a late start on the day.
Blessings all
and
Happy Creating!!!

Ruby Throated Hummer-earthquake today

Look Who came to visit Yesterday

thats right....a ruby throated Hummingbird.....I dare say he is a wee bit early.
I was sitting outside soaking in some well needed Vitamin D and this little fella, buzzed up...
Well is sounded more like bfffffff then buzzzzzz.
I quickly ran in the house and grabbed the fancy Red Glass Hummingbird feeder i bought in the winter at a local thrift shop....washed it up and filled it with 1/4 sugar and 1 cup water.

Did you know that you should NEVER EVER give Hummingbirds the Red Liquid Food, sold in the stores....
Red food colouring can STERILIZE the Hummingbird....
That is just terrible.
Buy Containers that are red, not the food that is red...

P.S. did anyone feel the earthquakes today?  I did, it made all my china cabinets chiggle.....eek!

Happy Long Weekend....the UNOFFICIAL first long weekend of the summer....
Be Safe, Be WISE
Be BLESSED

Dandelion Fairy

Just a little something i was working on today.....

I have these idea's that pop into my head about the goings on of mischiefs fairies......
I used some of the techniques i learned from taking Jane Davenports mini class "draw happy"
Now i'm not attached to this picture so i was able to just "try" different things, some of them didn't turn out so well, and some turned out o.k...

It is confirmed that "cheap" paper and watercolour pencils, do not cooperate so well....lines are left on the page, but thats o.k....I also discovered that my watercolour pens work better on Gesso® then regular cheap paper.....and my dollar store markers blend better on Gessoed paper, than they do regular cheap paper.

i am still working on mastering fine lines for the eyelashes.....but that is coming.....

I have noticed that i am paying a little more attention to detail as well as going that little extra to add in some back ground..... something i was terrible for before....i was always in too much of a hurry....

Happy Creating All!
Blessings,
Cynthia♥

Garden Fairy entry

I thought I would share my next assignment in my "Draw Happy" online class....
I copy and pasted my entry.....saved typing it all over again....

Let me say first off.....she IS NOT SUPPOSED to look this provocative.....

and her dress is NOT SUPPOSED to be sheer .
She is supposed to be a tired Garden Fairy, resting on a flower.... LOL LOL LOL

O.k.... that's out of the way..... I created my little 4.5 x 7" waterpaper (not good quality ...bummer) following the step by step instructions provided by Tessha Moore( good quality instructions :) ...I didn't have an 'awl' or waxed thread....so i used a darning needle and ordinary thread and pulled gently... lol
I had troubles with the water colour paints because they seemed to 'stick' to the paper....i'm chalking it up to cheap paper... :(
As much as i love shading.....and i love shading....i still struggle with it.....i'm hoping that you touch on that in the next few videos.....
I CANNOT tell you HOW HELPFUL that little bit of information on how to create facial features has helped..... omgoodness ....YEAH!!! :)
I'm off to watch the next video.....back soon
Blessings,
Cynthia♥
